Innovation at CMP

For the last 14 years CMP advanced mechanical solutions has furnished a variety of industries with their design and engineering savvy. The use of Design For Manufacturability Principles (DFM) enables them to engineer a product which facilitates the manufacturing process which in turn lowers the customers costs for parts and for labor. Consistent with CMPs goal to always be on the cutting edge of innovation and design CMP developed a team responsible for developing welding processes in a controlled environment . In early 2011 that team, the Jig and Fixture Development Team (JFDT) expanded from one person to a high performance unit of specialists with diverse backgrounds including a toolmaker machinist, CAD designer, CWB inspector, welders, and VKS agents.
As per Don McQuillen, Engineering Manager at CMP, “The common goal of this team is to reduce the ramp up to production, and increase quality and productivity. They do so by developing prototypes and preproduction parts in a controlled environment and testing the processes before any parts are released to regular production. This practice provides a turnkey solution for CMPs manufacturing process.”
The most recent addition to CMPs ever expanding design portfolio is a robotisized welding fixture. The Jig and Fixture Development Team was commissioned to develop a robotic welding fixture to be designed and manufactured entirely at CMPs home base near Montreal, Quebec. The fixture consists of pneumatic clamps, sensors and safety features all encompassed by an interlock system, and built within a strict 6-8 week timeframe. Upon completion of the component it will be mounted on a robot over 4500kms away in Mexico, a task which is challenging when the team members on each end of the project have never met face to face. The CMP Jig and Fixture Development Team has proven once again that their dedication to quality, consistency and a quicker ramp up to production is working, and its working well.
